Is it possible to play guitar through an amp head without a cabinet?
for example, if you have a line-6 spider III HD150 amp head, is it possible to play without using a cabinet? yes or no? how or why?
No - the amp head doesn't contain any speakers so there's nothing to produce sound.

Is it possible to use a amp head without a cabinet?
i have a Marshall 5010 master lead combo and I'm trying to see if i can use an amp head
does anybody know what is need to have this happen?

Your question does not make a lot of sense. You already have a Marshall combo which is an amplifier and a speaker in one cabinet. And you want to use a head. Do you mean you want to use a separate head with the speaker in your combo? Or run a separate head into your amplifier?
You can run a separate head into your speaker by disconnecting the speaker wire from your amp and running a speaker wire from the separate head into your speaker. You will not be using the amp in your combo but using the separate head to power the speaker in your combo. I am not sure why you would want to do this, unless the amp in your combo is not working.
An amplifier is designed to work with a speaker load of the proper wattage and ohm level and most manufacturers recommend that you do NOT operate the amp without a speaker hooked up to it (including Marshall).
If you are asking if you can run out of a separate head and into the input of your combo then the answer is not really without risking damage to either amp. The voltage level coming out of a separate heads speaker out is way too high for the input of another amp and you could easily fry both amps out. You can take the preamp out of the separate head and run that into the power amp in of another amp thus bypassing the preamp of the second amp but you would still need to have a speaker load hooked up to the first amp to ensure correct operation.
