Basic Class Usb

Why won't my computer recognize my "Drivers & Utilities" CD to re-install?
I have a Dell Mini & it crashed, so I bought a USB Optical Drive, and installed everything back into the computer. But when I go to install the "Drivers & Utilities", it won't recognize the disk. I have no volume, no WiFi, no anything extra than just a basic laptop. Is there anything I can do to get the computer to read the disk?
I really need it for college (some of my classes are online) & the desktop is older than dirt & of no help. I don't have the money to take it to a professional to get it fixed. If anybody can help it'd be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks.
The easiest fix is to use another computer of course and download the drivers you need. http://www.driverguide.com/ has free membership and will have the drivers you need if I may be so presumptuous. They have yet to fail me in 4 years. Download them to a flash-drive. Use that for your drivers.

USB Mass Storage Class on an Embedded Host Application Note Overview
I am a Phd student and I m tired of buying class notes and having to keep them in my shelves.?
I am thinking of buying a tablet pc, that I could use to take notes and save them as pdf. It would make life more easier and organised. Can anyone tell me something thats is just enough for me . Just the requirements of being able to take notes, wi-fi,usb port and just the basic setup.
I want to use the stylus as my typing speed is not good.
There are a number of Laptops that would do what you want.
HP Pavilions are good - the DV Series are reasonable and do a bit more than just what you want.

Look at the DV4 and the DV6 models
Acer Aspires and others by Acer are fairly cheap and will do everything you want and then some.

Toshiba Satellites are very good but may be a bit high for your budget.
As for creating PDF files, you may want to look into the Adobe Acrobat line of products because some of them are very expensive.
