Why do my Ipod ear-buds repel each other?
I was messing with my ear buds (for the sake of boredom) and I noticed that when you place the speakers of the ear buds together they repel each other slightly. This occurs even when the ear buds aren't connected to the Ipod. Can anyone help?
Because there are magnets in your headphones. They are used to produce the sound.
The wires from your music source are connected to each end of a tiny coil in each earpiece. The coil is attached to a diaphragm of thin material. The coil is placed inside field of the permanent magnets. When electrical signals pass thru the wire from your music source to the coil, a small magnetic field is produced around the coil, that matches the amplitude curve of the signal. This forces the coil to move in and out of the permanent magnet's field, thereby vibrating the diaphragm, which vibrates the surrounding air, at the same speed and intensity of the incoming electrical signal...your electrical signal is turned into SOUND waves.
