Color Effect How do i achieve this color effect in photoshop?
how do i edit a picture in photoshop 7 to take a color photo and gradually desaturate it more and more as it goes down the picture?
no i mean at the top of my photo it is completely desaturated but as your eye moves down the pic more and more of the color comes back and is completely color at the bottom. like the color fades back in the picture
Thanks plumm dumplin but when i do that the color is really vibrant and i want it to be the normal colors and faded into desaturated. any ideas?
Use a hue/saturation adjustment layer and then put a gradation on the adjustment layer's mask (or paint it in). Take a look http://i44.tinypic.com/2qinvc1.jpg
EDIT: that's odd, nothing there would add vibrancy - in my example, the bottom of my picture looks exactly like it did without the gradated saturation adjustment layer - take a look http://i39.tinypic.com/2ilgfub.jpg The only thing I can think of is that you hit another slider in the hue/saturation window. Or, not that I can match your problem with this, but I just discovered that you can change the layer blending mode (at the top of the layer palette) on an adjustment layer - make sure it's at Normal.
If you don't get an answer that works from someone else, and/or you want to keep fiddling around with my help, I can take a look at a screenshot from you and see if I can figure it out. You can email me if you want.
WordPress Themes and How Color Effects Buying Habits
When you are looking at WordPress themes and trying to figure out which color would best suit your website, consider the psychological effects of color. In Western psychology, color produce a psychological effect on viewers. Viewers may associate qualities with a color and color may be symbolic as well.
When choosing colors, you can choose one color as the main color or you can chose a main color with other accent colors. One main color with two accent colors is a good combination if you want a livelier palette for your website than just a single color.
The warm colors of the color wheel can affect viewers because of the strength of these colors. These warm colors can overwhelm your website's content unless they are used with moderation. Unlike the mellow blues and greens, the warm colors beg for attention. Yellow will grab the eye and may be distracting if it is overused. In color psychology, yellow can be motivating and sometimes over-stimulating. In studies, tempers were lost easier and babies cried more in yellow rooms.
Orange can spark the appetite in viewers. If you wish to whet the appetite of your visitors, use orange in your WordPress theme. It will look fresh and natural while it rings the lunch bell in reader's minds. Red is another exciting warm color. Red can cause the heart rate and breathing to quicken and can over-stimulate too if it overwhelms a website. You should use the warm colors as accent colors because of the strength of their visual effect.
The cool colors of the color wheel has a more soothing effect. Green is symbolic color for many people. Symbolically, green has a few meanings. Green can symbolize money, prosperity, growth, youth, nature and freshness. As a color choice for a website, green is a lively color that does not cause eye strain. The color green has a relaxing effect on its viewers. Dark green is often seen as a masculine or woodsy color.
The color blue is associated with masculinity and it is often associated with authority. Websites that present information and want to be seen as an authority on the subject can do well to use blue as a main color. Blue is a favorite color with many people because of its tranquil appearance.
Neutral colors such as gray, brown, black and white have meanings for viewers too. Gray projects authority and stability. Brown presents an earthy and honest quality that could be considered homespun or earthy. Black means power, authority and knowledge for many viewers. Black sometimes have negative connotations for some viewers. On the other hand, white represents purity and neutrality.
WordPress themes can be used because of the effects that the color will have on the website viewers. If you choose a WordPress theme with the right color, your website will have the effect on viewers that you want instead of affecting viewers in such a way that they are over-stimulated or uninspired. Color is a powerful element when it comes to the design of your WordPress website.

Combining Techniques in Photoshop
by Jim Zuckerman , author of Techniques of Natural Light Photography , Professional Photographer’s Guide to Shooting & Selling Nature & Wildlife Photos , Perfect Exposure: Jim Zuckerman’s Secrets to Great Photographs … and more
One of my favorite things to do in Photoshop is to combine techniques. I used to do this in the darkroom many years ago, but now it’s so easy to do because you can see the results immediately on the monitor. If you don’t like what you’ve done, just go back one step (Control or Command Z) and try again.
Sometimes Surreal or Painterly … Always Unexpected
Combining techniques usually produces images that are very far from the original. Sometimes they end up being surreal, sometimes painterly, and almost always you end up with something completely unexpected. You don’t need great powers of precognition. You don’t need to pre-visualize the end result after you’ve moved 10 creative steps away from the original. It’s just a matter of trial and error. If you like an effect, save it and then go on to add more effects. When do you stop? Whenever you like. This photo consists of three images: My wife modeling a costume as if she were in Venice, Italy during Carnival, a famous building in
Venice for the background, and a Mardi Gras mask that was digitally pasted over my wife’s face. I used Photoshop to cut and paste these components together. Then, I applied the Buzz.X filter and that turned the image into an abstraction of the original composite. It looks like a painting. Finally, I exaggerated the colors with hue and saturation and then increased the contrast using levels.

This article is very simple, and not so important. It’s basic knowledge of the omputer. Using your backspace is important as it fixes mistakes, and if I like the effect, i don’t have to backspace! Wow, this is something I already knew. Siskel and Ebert give this article TWO THUMBS DOWN.

This article discusses the really cool effects of combining photoshop techniques to create nifty, unique photos. I like the idea of trial and error, creating photos without any sort of pre-visioning. The combining of several techniques could greatly enhance the theme of abstract photography and produce successful results when editing photographs that are originally difficult to work with.

When we worked on the photoshop unit in here I tried a lot of new technics that I hadn’t heard of until then and got a very distorted picture in the process. This author used the same kind of technic, though I think he actually knew what he was doing. It’s always fun to fiddle around with technology and to get an unexpected and awesome effect is a great perk.

Photoshop is fun, there are so many fun things you can do with it. I dont really understand how the author did most of the effects but it sounded like a neat end result.

The article is about color effects with photoshop. It was an interesting article, but if you dont use it alot then the article seems a bit useless. I dont use this sort of thing much so I didnt get a whole lot out of it. It was a good article otherwise. Gives interesting ideas for working photoshop.

This is a good article for beginning photoshoppers. I have used this technique before, trying different tools and experimenting to find out what you like. A good thing about photoshop is that if you dont like the effect you have added, you can just go a step back. This lets you try every tool in photoshop, with no worry about how your picture will turn out.

This article is about all the new techniques with photoshop. It talks about how photographers love to use photoshop, putting in the same techniques that they used to use in the darkroom. I have photoshop on my computer and i love to use it to put many different things on all of my pictures.

This article talks about combining techniques in photoshop. This produces an image on the screen that you can correct instead of trying it in the darkroom. This article was beneficial and i might try using this technique to improve my photos without having to worry about messing up my prints.

I guess this is an interesting article from the way you look at it. It would have been a lot better if he had told us what techniques to use and what photoshop offers us. But all this author told us is what he did with his wifes picture. Though, i wasn’t particulary fond of the article, i thought what he did was pretty interesting. I never knew what the Buzz X filter did, and now i know, so i can apply it to my own photos.

This article talks about the use of different techniques in order to edit and create the visuals in photoshop that you desire. It talks of editing, saving, and if it looks good, you can use another technique, or filter, and determine if it looks good or not, and continue. I found this article pointless for the information is common sense.
Comment by Will Bradley 01.22.07 5:25 pm
I thought this article was interesting even though it’s deals with the basics of using photoshop, i think pretty much everyone should know how to do these types of things because you can create some pretty cool pictures using this technique. I don’t know a ton about photoshop but i did know about this technique.

I think the article was very random. It did apply to me because I have used photoshop before in the lab. I thi nkt hat applying certain techniques and steps is a good oppurtunity to show how we produce certain effects and a creative way of making original portraits. It is a fun way of how to apply cetatin results in the photo’s.

I think photoshop is a great idea for photographers. It lets them think ahead and really be able to not just visualize, but also see the different ways their photographs can turn out. When using it, you can make your photograph look completely different from the origional shot and let you have a greater freedom of creativity.

yet highly informative. the importance of photoshop to digital photography cannot be underestimated

I can relate to this because i always mess with different filters and mixed effects to se what i can come up with without knowing what the final product will look like in the end. I think this is the best way yo learn photoshop and other programs like it because you can see what your doing instead of being told what it does. you will also learn more than what the tutorials can show you by mixing the filters brushes etc to get a new effect

What 'profile' is your monitor set to?
The best profile to set your monitor to is sRGB and use the same when you edit in PS.
Give that a try and see how you go.
I believe a hard reset would fix this, but it does involve removing the battery while the device is still on.
You can install a free program called QuickPull that simulates a battery pull:
If that doesn't work then you will need to remove the hard covering and pull the battery.
