Color Light Chaser
trailer light wiring?
hi i have 7 metres of 5 core trailer wire and want to know can it be also used for 240v lighting as i,m making 2 dj light boxes with 4 coloured floodlight bulbs in each box and using a 4 channel 240v light chaser/controller that has 4 wires on it + common wire
(channel 1, channel 2, channel 3 ,channel 4 and common) would this cable be ok and it will be using 7.5amp all up for the globes

i am using 240v because the lighting controller/chaser is rated at 240v 7.5amp
240v? must be UK.
trailer wire? as in automobile 12v brake light wiring? Not a good match.
240V is usually wired with 8 to 12 AWG in Canadian homes for clothes dryers, or ovens / stoves / ranges. I've seen 14 AWG used for air conditioners.
Figure out your current, then use that to determine conductor cross sectional area.
Use your voltage to choose an appropriate thickness of insulation.

Don't EVER use ANY 12/24V-rated cables with voltages over 50V - it's unsafe, especially in wet weather.
The copper part is probably ok, depending on the total load you want to connect, but the insulation is definitely not.
The 7.5A fuse can accommodate a total load of up to 1800 W @ 240 V.

The more bulbs you connect in series the less total current they will draw. However the more bulbs you connect in series the dimmer each bulb will be.
