Connecting dmx Lights
DMX Lighting... Dimmer Packs?
Can someone please explain the use of a dimmer pack...
I dont want the full technical niff naff stuff tho.
I hear they are for controlling the intensity of lights, Am I right?
But if you connect a light up to a controller on its own via DMX can it not increase and decrease its own intensity without the need of a dimmer pack?
Im a bit lost with them can someone please explain?

There are three basic components to a normal lighting system:
Lights
Dimmers
Controller
A controller "talks" to the dimmer modules via DMX. The controller does not connect to the lights directly.
Some DJ and theater type effects lighting is directly controlled by DMX. These are the type of lights that display different colors or can be moved and aimed remotely.
Normal incandescent lighting needs a dimmer.
