Unless your laptop died in a fire, you can most likely recover all the data. Buy one of or similar. Tons and tons of them on eBay. Use a small screwdriver and remove the panel covering the hard drive from the back of the laptop. Remove the hard drive, connect it to this cable, and plug the cable into another computer. Unless your hard drive is severely fucked, it will show up as an external drive — like a flash drive — on the new computer. Transfer anything you like to the new computer. While the drive is plugged in, try not to move it around too much, (place hard drive on a stable surface, THEN plug it into the laptop, and don’t move it until you “Safely remove USB devices” and unplug it again). This will prevent you from jostling it while it’s running and potentially corrupting data.

    >or is it a cable box that receives those few channels in "cable" clear quality.

Coupon type converters only work with antenna signals and were specifically designed so they will not work with any major cable TV system.

    >When I get the converter box, will I still see them blurry, and fuzzy,

Converter boxes never give a blurry or fuzzy picture. But since you currently get poor analog reception, its likely that you will get an unacceptable amount of breakups in digital reception with your current antenna. .

You will probably need a better antenna. What constitutes a "better" antenna is extremely dependent on your specific location.

The Zenith/Insignia model converter is about the best with dealing with marginal TV signals. About as good as even expensive HDTVs.
