Fiber Insulation

Drilling through Insulation to install new lighting in existing house?
My boyfriend and I are going to put accent lighting in his dad's house. We want to drill a hole through the top of the attic floor down the wall into behind the cabinets (if that makes sense), but his drill keeps getting caught up in insulation and it's not drilling the hole.
I looked online and there was a suggestion to jab through the insulation but it still hasn't past the point we're at. Is there any suggestions that will help get through the insulation (I believe it's glass fiber insulation... it's pink) so we can get down to the hole we've cut out for the wiring.
My boyfriend is an electrician so he knows what he's doing, we just can't get past the insulation (he's more commercial than residential).
Any and all suggestions are welcomed!!!
we actually got through using just the drill. We changed the position of where we were drilling and we're through to where we need to be. Thanks for all the suggestions though!!!
yes, use a smooth stiff wire whatever length your going to need to get high enough.
use it on a cordless drill and cut the end at an angle or file to a point.
An older stiff coat hanger may work ok.
I use these all the time for going through solid wood, carpeted floors and through walls, ceilings for spotting where work will come out on the other side.

100% Recycled Newspaper Fiber Insulation Process
I want to know how to get started in processing alpaca fiber into home insulation,?
I want to process my alpaca fiber into batts of wall insulation. I know it is naturally fire retardant and the only chemical I can think of that it needs is Borate to keep the moths out of it. My problem is where do I start with getting it to meet the codes here in California, USA? I know that before I can sell this as a viable home insulation that I need to have it pass various government tests and that is where I need help, how do I get this process started? Is their a book on doing this? I know that their is a company in (I believe southern Ca.) that takes ends of denim material and processes this cotton into home insulation but they also had to pass the governments tests to be allowed to sell it, how did they do it?
Thank You for helping me.
contact these companies.the company that makes the denim or cotton insulation was featured on PBS building green.
