Halogen Bulb
I have a 1992 Cavalier. I need to change the halogen bulb in the headlight. Any helpful hints?
I watched a friend put in the passenger side bulb last month. It seemed easy. But now I'm nervous. Is there anything I should look out for?
Halogen bulbs are the correct bulbs for your Cavalier.
They are not too difficult to replace. The one main problem is that you must not touch the glass on the new bulb going in. This can cause a hot spot and the bulb could blow quickly.
Have a good look to see what has to be removed and replaced. First remove the cover and wires at the rear of the lamp. Next undo the clip holding the bulb in place.
The bulb will now com out and the new one can be put back in. The bulb will only go in one way, it is located by a little notch in the side of the lamp base. When the bulb is in place rotate it a little until it locks in place.
Now replace the retaining clip and the wires with cover.
Job done.
It is a simple job for someone in the know. A lot of good mechanics would probably fit the bulb for just the cost of the bulb.

9006 Halogen Bulb On a 50W HID Ballast
Why should you not touch a halogen bulb with your fingers?
what happens to the bulb when you touch it with your fingers and what does methylated spirits do to the bulb if you do touch it
Halogen bulbs put out a lot of heat. The oils in finger prints tend to concentrate the heat and cause the bulbs to burn out rapidly. Not sure what methylated spirits would do.
