Lamp Par What old movie has a magic lamp and the guy who swells up hugely while laughing?
I wish I could remember more of it. I saw a bit of it long ago, when the world was newer. He discovers a magic lamp, and I think is granted wishes, only I think the genie is sorta not up to par. He at one point swells up hugely, laughing at bandits, then shrinks down again and discovers sheepishly that he's now normal size and soon to be chained up right alongside the hapless genie as slaves.
Any ideas as to the title of this old film comedy?
Yes, I know it's a film from the "Aladdin's magic lamp" genre, but the question is, which film? Just to clear up any possible confusion, this is a live-action film, not a feature-length animated cartoon from Disney.
...from what you describe, I think that you are getting some of your details mixed up, about the movie, which you are looking for; from what you describe, I am envisioning an exact same scene, but it's Aladdin, a bumbling, albeit clever waif, who in getting three wishes from a genie, which he inadvertantly releases from a lamp (...an Italian-accented one, no less!), uses one of the wishes to grow into a giant, to scare some bullies that are chasing him; after instilling feat into the bullies, they scatter away, fearfully, but one bully stays to watch the wish wear off (...he thinks that Aladdin is some kind of wizard), as Aladdin shrinks back down, still laughing, as he still thinks that he's a giant, and of course, is quickly and frightenly taken aback, when he realizes that he is normal size again....
....that movie was the classic 1961 comedy/fantasy/adventure, "The Wonders of Aladdin", with the late & great Donald O'Conner, playing Aladdin....
