D90 cameras and regular Film SLR Lenses?

My friend who has a D300 showed me that he could put on old school film SLR lenses and program the camera to know what F/stop the lens was set to. And could trigger the lens to trips it's aperture when he shot.

The D300 is a closer to pro spec (same sensor, better body). But can the D90 be programmed in a similar way?
I'm looking to get the D90, probably with the kit lens just to start. But since I'm a starving artist, it'll be a while before I can buy a nice new fixed focal length lens. Buying second hand regular film SLR lens would be awesome, their sooo cheap now!

Does anyone know, or know where I could find out. The people at my local corporate camera store know nothing.

I think you are referring to old AI and/or AI-S lens. The answer is no this is a feature found in higher cameras like the D200,D300,D3. This to let the camera know what type non CPU lens is on the camera so it can meter correctly. You can still use these type of lens on the camera, but it will not meter.
If money is tight, like it is for me look into used AF lens.

There is something IN the lens of my digital camera?

Hey thur-
so recently there has been a little shadow (maybe the size of a small bead) in all of my photographs. I'm assuming there is something IN the lense of my camera (not on it, i've cleaned it so many times since that stupid spot showed up). So i think there is a crumb or a big piece-o- dust behind my lens, and i was wondering how to get it out!!! or is this the job of a pro? :( i really don't want to have to buy a new freakin' camera! Nor do i want to have to pay a ton to get a dumb crumb out from behind the lens...SOOO
if you could help me, that would be mucho appriciated :)
this is my exact camera..

It's just dust on the sensor.

If you don't already have one, go to your local camera store & get a squeeze blower. Put your camera into cleaning/mirror up/sensor cleaning mode, take off the lens, point the opening down & blower up, & start blowing. The dust should get blown out & fall toward the ground (away from the camera).

Now you just have to put the lens back on & turn off the camera to get out of the cleaning mode.

If the blower doesn't work (usually does), you'll need a sensor swab or brush. It's just as easy, but you have to be careful as you will be in physical contact with the sensor. If you rush it, you can damage it.

If that frightens you (or you tend to be a little clumsy), you may want to pay someone to clean it for you. It usually costs $50-85.

Update: Well, since you have a p/s camera, you won't be able to clean it yourself. It will have to go out for cleaning. It's rare to get dust inside the camera (although it happens). If you've had it for less than a year & have a receipt, they will do it for free. Otherwise they may charge you around $100.
