Light Compact Size

Good low light lens for Nikon D40?
I have a Nikon D40. I've recently been shooting a lot in low light places. AKA Cafes with open mics and the works. All these places are poorly lit, but flash photography is not recommended. I've noticed some nice low light images. So I was wondering, what sort of lens would work best for such situations. Price isn't a problem, though size could be. I'm not looking for anything gigantic, hopefully something compact. Is the 85mm f/1.8 AF in the running?
For your indoor low-light photography the Nikkor AF-S 35mm f1.8 should suffice. The Nikkor EF-S 50mm f1.4 is 2/3 stop faster but you probably need the wider coverage of the 35mm.
If you think you can do without auto focus you could always go with the Nikkor 35mm f1.4.

What digital compact camera is good with all lighting conditions?
I'm looking to buy a camera that's especially good with lowlight (since I'm not a great fan of the flash). One that's good with close ups and has a lot of scenery modes.
A good grip would be nice. And pocket size would be ideal.
So far, I've been under the impression that the Sony Cybershot is best in lowlight,
but I've heard that when you take normal shots that it blurs. Is it true? Not so sure what to believe.
My family has a 4.0 megapixel Canon Powershot, which I hate. When it takes portraits of other people in low light, it makes the skin color either redder or yellower than it actually is in real life. I've tried the more recent ones (at 10 megapixels I believe) and I didn't like it so much either. The times I've tried it, it required really really good lighting.
&Also. Does the Sony Cybershot zoom when you use video?
you can consider buying

Definately go for the silhouette of a Boston Terrier. My husband and I had also worried about taking the leap towards dogowner-ville — but its been surprisingly natural. They have all the heart of a big dog, but in a conveniently compact size (though certainly not purse size) — which means less money spent on dog food and less time cleaning up after them. Plus, they actually look a lot like that silhouette above!
