Anyone know why the fan on my desk will not turn?
So I have a 12" tabletop fan in my children's room that has stopped working. When you turn it on, the blades do not rotate, but you can hear a light humming as if it trying to go. Now, if I take off the face cover, and spin the blades by hand, the start rotating just fine. This is not the first fan that has had this problem. Any ideas as to why and what to to? Thanks.
Thanks. I am going to try taking it apart and lubing it up. And I don't know who gave thumbs down to you guys. Must just be a jerk going through Y-answers.
As William stated ....those small fans have a sleeve bearing, and by design are made to go bad after a while “planned obsolesces”.
I keep mine going by taking it apart {when it starts to slow down or will not start} and greasing the sleeve bearings {front & rear}
If you remove the front, remove the blade,……… usually you have 4 long bolts that hold the rotor in …remove the bolts/nuts and apply grease to the sleeve bearings …………..or if that is too much trouble you can do what they want you to do toss it and buy a new one
