Lighting Light Control How do I make my light switch control my outlet?
I want to be able to make the light switch in my living room turn on the lamp in my living room. Currently, I have to turn the lamp on manually and the light switch is "dead"...it doesn't control anything. I think it's probably a wiring problem.
Can someone help? Please use wire colors in your response to help me. Thanks so much!
It is possible that the switch only controls 1/2 of the outlet. In my living room, the top half of the outlet is live all the time. The bottom half is controlled by the wall switch. You can wire a switch this way by cutting the metal tab which is connecting the screws on the outlet. Just for kicks, plug your lamp into the other half of the outlet, and see what happens.
