Lighting Scatter Star Does anyone know anything about Fechner's Law?
I have no idea about this. If your familiar with it and know the answer please help.
Fechner's Law, which shows that our eyes do not respond to differences in objects' brightnesses, uses what observational fact to demonstrate it?
The spectra of hot stars contain hydrogen
The stars come out at night
Binary stars orbit around their common center of mass
Colorblind people cannot see blue stars
The atmosphere scatters blue light most effectively, creating our blue sky
Fechner's Law is an old idea summarised in the phrase "equal physical ratios produce equal psychological differences". It is an early attempt to quantify the perception of stimuli such as light and sound, and has been superceded by more accurate concepts. Stars coming out at night is the phenomenon most often associated with Fechner's Law, because it is applicable to the ancient classification of stars by their brightness.
The stated "observational fact" about colourblind people not seeing blue stars is not a fact. Blue stars emit a broad spectrum of light, most of which is visible by colourblind people.
What does the first quatrain of the Rubaiyant mean?
Wake! For the Sun who scattered into flight
The Stars before him from the Field of Night,
Drives Night along with them from Heaven and Strikes
The Sultan's Turret with a Shaft of Light.
Literal:
It's time to wake up. The sun has pushed the night stars from the dark night sky, and is pushing the dark night away also. Look, you can see a shaft of light rising over the horizon to strike the top of the Sultan's tower.
Fitzgerald did several variations of this verse. I like some of the others better. Most books carry 2 or 3 of the editions / versions that he published. Look and see if you have them....
