How can I record my synthesizer on the computer using a MIDI-based cable?

Hey folks! Quick question.
A recently invested in an E-MU 1x1 MIDI USB cable, with which I hoped to be able to use my Alesis Micron synthesizer on my computer. Thus far I’ve been able to use it to play Synthesia, a Guitar Hero type game designed for keyboard-which was one of my goals-but the bigger thing is that I’d love to be able to record my synth. I guess I don’t really understand enough about this cable-is it treating my synth like a MIDI controller? It plugs in the the MIDI OUT/MIDI IN ports on the back of the synth. If so, can I still use it to record and if so, what programs are good for something like this?

Look at Audacity it is a FREE recording program , I'am not sure if it supports full MIDI though.

Or a sure fire program is Abelton Live 7 .http://www.ableton.com/live

Abelton is expensive , but you can find full cracked RAR's easily.

Alesis Micron Demo # 2 By Tony 2008

Can anyone please recommend a Synthesizer?

Hi, I'm a complete newcomer to the world of synth. But lots of very kind people gave me some money for my 30th birthday and this is how I wish to spend it! So far, I've read lots on the Internet about the Korg MS2000, the Alesis Ion and their littler brothers, the MicroKorg and the Alesis Micron. I might be able to stretch to the slightly more expensive end of this spectrum but the MS2000 and Ion are out of production from what I can tell..... So that's the background. Any advice whatsoever would be hugely appreciated. Oh - and I love electro like Morr Music (Lali Puna) and bands like Stereolab. As well as Prefuse 73. So those would be my influences... not trance.

the Korg is good.

check out Yamaha's range also.
