they can usually tell the sex of the baby at around 16 weeks. my friend found out she was having a girl at 12 weeks, but i wouldn't trust it at 12 weeks, because it might look like one, but be the other, since they are still developing. I found out at 16 weeks, but it took a while to see it. The baby was jumping aorund alot (not a bad thing, by the way), so we had to keep watching until he turned enough to see the privates.
If something was wrong, the doctor would have told you. So, I wouldn't worry about it. Afterall, the opint of sonos is to check to make sure everything is okay, not for your amusement (although they are fun to watch! lol). so, if he didn't mention anything, then its because there was nothing wrong to mention
