Mist Formula
My 5 months has a cold, coughing a lot. Do you know any tips to make him feel better?
He has cold for 4 days and can not sleep well, often wake up at night crying. He sneezing, wheezing and coughing a lot. Doctor doesn't recommend for medicine. The weather is cold so I use heater in my apartment, i don't know if it was the reason to make him cough. I just buy a cool mist humidifier today but see no different. What should I do, mommies? Should I give him water beside formula?

Definitely go with the cool mist humidifier and vapor rub for babies back and slightly on his chest. Make sure you don't use too much, but enough that it will help baby breathe. The vapor rub helps to loosen up his chest and relieve and calm his cough & it will significantly help when baby is sleeping during naps and at night. If baby has stuffy nose you can use a bulb syringe to help suck out mucous from his nose but make sure you do it properly. Squeeze bulb syringe BEFORE you put it up his nose & not too far in...have a napkin or some tissue next to you to pump out all the remains from the syringe. Repeat until nothing gets sucked out. Stay away from medicines I'd say unless he's running a fever go with tylenol...but cough medicines don't always clear up a cough and I found myself wasting money on them. The pillow idea is also something I do for baby. It helps so they're not laying flat on their back at night and by giving them a little angle they can breathe a little better. And sure give baby plenty of liquids when he's sick. You could also add just the smallest bit of juice to his water or a little bit of sugar to make him like drinking it aside from his formula. EDIT: baby vicks you can pick up at a walgreens or walmart or kmart...and it's just a rub like Vaseline that you apply with your fingertips to babies back and chest. Heres what you look for...
