Setting Up Sound System?

I've been asked to buy and install a sound system (and lighting system) for my uncles nightclub opening in a few months.

I am a DJ and have not set up anything bigger than a couple of active monitors in my home DJ set up.

I need some advice on what speakers and sub woofers to buy, the capacity of the club is 400 people but it would be severely crowded with that many - I think they will be needing about 8-10 wall mounted speakers and 1-2 sub woofers.

I also know that if the speakers/woofers are passive they will require some amps? and also a mixing desk for the booth.

Any advice here would be great guys - I'm not sure weather I should get active equipment or passive to be hooked up to amps?

Also wattage is something I have NO CLUE about - they do have an electrician at hand though.

What order does the system go in -

Speakers - Amps - Mixing desk - Dj mixer ??

Thanks in advance.

TV Port - As the other person said, you might want to consider hiring a company that installs DJ systems. They would be in the phone book under "Sound Systems".

If you insist on doing it yourself, it can be done but just realize this is no small project.

You did not mention a budget. I'll assume you have enough to buy a decent system.

You do not need a mixing desk if it is only going to be a dance club. Pretty much any good DJ mixer with XLR outputs will do just fine.

Basic Equip List:

DJ Mixer

Crossover (separates the highs and the lows for the sub)

Amps & speakers OR powered speakers (for a club I would go with normal speakers and amps because it will be a bit easier to wire and probably a bit cheaper too)

Mixer:

Main speakers (4 each to start):

Subs (2 each):

Amps for mains (2 each):

Amps for subs (2 each):

The sub amps are the same as the main amps but you will run them in "bridged mode". Each amp will put out 2400 watts into each sub.

The two main amps should be on a separate 20 amp circuit. EACH sub amp should be on it's own 20 amp circuit.

Use good heavy 12 gauge wire to wire from amps to speakers - Home Depot and Lowes usually carry install grade speaker wire.

If you need help with hooking all this up, let me know. I design and install sound systems like this all the time. My e-mail is in my profile. I live in CT USA if you need help.

How would you best describe Manchester as a city?

I'm an American applying to the University of Manchester to study anthropology (I already know the nuances of applying as an international student into the British system). I'm not 100% positive about whether or not I'll be able to visit the school if I get in, so I'm trying to research it as much as I can.

I hope to attend an enormous school in a big (yet not royally expensive) city. I love industrial vibes, which I'm hoping I'll get in Manchester. I want to be able to either walk everywhere or just use public transportation, and I need the availability of being able to leave the city on occasions to go on various excursions (I'm very athletic and love to run). My ideal city wouldn't JUST be nightclubs, because I'd really prefer a quiet night out with a few friends than a crazy party with strobe lights blinking like mad. Also, I love a city that has something to be proud of.

Does Manchester fit these requirements?

all these and more!

you'd love it!

Cool stuff! I just wonder if you could do it right away or had to extend the driver software a bit for the extra.
