If I buy an item with my CA sellers permit from an AZ wholesaler, do they report that to CA?
I just got off the phone with the state board of equalization for California. They're telling me that I have to get a sellers permit to sell my own used items on ebay. So in thinking of any benefits to this at all I verified that I will be able to buy things wholesale. They explained that if I do and I don't resell it that I have to pay a use tax. My question is do wholesalers report you when you purchase from them? What is to stop me from getting my 1000 sticks of incense for my own personal use or wholesale vitamins and not reporting it?
The operator explained that I would be on a reporting basis meaning I have to tell them quarterly how much I'm selling or purchasing to pay the taxes on that which tells me that its strictly on an honor system but do they have a different way to verify it?
Just weighing the pros and cons of whether or not I should do this and trying to figure out why I have to pay taxes on selling my own items on ebay?

I will appologize for the long winded answer AND I don't mean to sound harsh, I'm just trying to save you from potential headaches.
If you're lazy with your record keeping / paperwork, or dishonest.... you're taking a huge risk. It might be better to just figure something else out.
IF.... and that's IF you're good with record keeping, and you want to make an honest profit... GO FOR IT.
Going into business for yourself is a HUGE task, even more if you're selling items. You're responsible for collecting sales tax (or paying use tax if you used it yourself), as you already know.
NOW... if you are selling your own personal items.. no I don't believe you need a resale permit for that. If you purchased an item at retail, and now your are liquidating your own items... you are more than likely selling at a loss. Call back and get another rep at the SBOE, and better explain yourself.
If you purchased an item with the intention of reselling it for a PROFIT.. then yes, you need a sales permit and you must collect sales tax. (but you can also write of the cost of the item IF you have a valid reciept).
Depending on how much you purchase, the wholesaler might need to send in a report, or if CA SBOE wants to...they can figure ANYTHING out.
On top of it.... say the word "AUDIT". If you don't have proof you sold it, then you used it personally.
You mention ebay....
If you sell to a customer in CA, then you MUST collect sales tax (for the city/county the CUSTOMER lives in). If all your customers are out of state, then there's no sales tax to collect. BUT, you'll still need to file with the SBOE to say "$0.00 CA sales". Again, you need to have proof in the event there's ever an audit. Just do it by the book, and you'll never have problems.
Just because you have a sales permit, doesn't mean you always have to use it when purchasing items......
IF you paid sales tax on your INVENTORY... you can right off the amount of sales tax paid for your INVENTORY when you file your taxes. IRS form 1040, schedule C, line 23 <<< not that I'm tax preparer or anything, call an accountant to confirm.
Speaking of taxes, and filing with the IRS. save your money for an accountant (no... not HR block), if you have a business it's a HUGE undertaking when filing, and you could potentially miss out on some nice write-offs. Or start reading now for 2008 taxes.
Another note... dang-nab CA 
IF you purchase something from outside of CA, and didn't pay sales tax... you STILL owe use tax if you used/consumed the item in CA. (ebay, internet, or catalog). They even made it "super convienent" to pay for it right on your CA state filing.
Again, just do things by the book. You won't ever have to worry. There are MANY great things with owning your own business. Instead of thinking of how much product you can buy at wholesale... think of how much you can save by writing off the use of your home/apt, utilities, mileage/gas, business trips, internet, advertising, also how much profit your business will bring, and of course the freedom to spend time with your family.

Good start. Under "skill," make all the phrases "match." . For instance: proficient in Microsoft Word, basic knowledge of Excel, experience in designing flyers and invitations for special events (using Paint Shop Pro), proficient in office functions (copying, e-mailing), creation of website using HTML.
Instead of "Summary of Qualifications," use the term "Job-Readiness Skills." That is the new buzz word for the soft skills you mentioned.
I would also add "Seeking an entry-level office position."
