Can you use the credit option on a debit card with no money on the card or little money?
Ok, say if you have a debit card with $2.50 on the card and wanted to purchase some shoes that were $90, could you use the credit option and pay the bill when it comes?
No, you do not have a line of credit. Selecting "credit" with your debit card is just a method of processing the transaction. You sign instead of use the PIN and the transaction is processed thru the merchants card processing system. But the money still comes directly from you bank account and you must have the funds in the bank to cover the transactions. Otherwise, your transaction will be declined or your will overdraft and get hit with fees.

I would like to get a debit card. Preferably from the Commonwealth bank. Do you know if it is possible to get one from there?
What other banks would be good?
I know for a fact that the Commonwealth bank don't currently have one, but expect to have a mastercard debit card by the end of October - wait it out!! : )
