How to keep a male gerbil- on his own- amused?
I've had the same toys in there for two weeks- a straw house, a store bought tube, a toilet roll (changed each week) and a tree trunk with holes in it.
What else can I add or swap?
No balls.
They get their tails stuck and break them.
And I do take him out of the cage, just not in a ball!
I'm in the process of getting a wheel, but he really prefers to dig and doesnt' go upstairs a lot- anything special I could get him for that?
You could make a box playground for him. For my gerbil, I have a carbord box (about half the size of a refrigerator box) filled with other smaller boxes. This creates an area for her to play outside her cage without being in danger if getting lost. I also have a bowl filled with sand in the box for her to roll and dig in.
