Smoke Fluid Fog car transmission will not shift properly ?
I have a 1989 Mercury Tracer/ 4 Cyl eng / automatic Transmission / Today coming from the store approx 3 blocks from home my eng light came on & at the same time the car stalled a couple of times. I then got home, parked & had a LIGHT smoke steam fog coming from the hood area. I immediately cut the eng & pulled the hood.
The problem was one of the tranny cooling lines had worked it self off the radiator outlet & pumped a lot of the tranny fluid out.
I then refilled to stick mark & started eng .
I then shifted to reverse , but the tranny would not engage ?
I then shifted to all drives & still would not engage at normal idle, but if i give it more gas it will engage in to drive & move ?
I was told by a mechanic friend to let it sit over night & cool down & restart eng & recheck in the morning ?
SO, is my Tranny shot ???.
Check your tranny fluid level to see if it is properly filled. You said you "refilled to stick mark & started eng." If one of the transmission cooling lines came off the radiator then you can be sure that it lost more fluid than just what the pan holds. After fixing the line the proper refill is to fill the transmission to the COLD mark on the dipstick WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING and then with the engine still running cycle the shifter through the gears and check the fluid level again to see if it is still at the cold mark. Then continue to run the engine until it is at peak operating temperature and then check the dipstick again to see if the fluid level has expanded to the HOT mark on the dipstick, and if not then add more fluid to top it off at the hot mark.
LeMaitre Smoke/Haze: Fog Curtain Effect with our Freezefog Pro
What is wrong with my 99 Honda Accord? Fogged windows, vents have smoke/steam sometimes, smelly vents!?
I just had the thermostat, timing belt, water pump, and the bypass tube replaced ($1000) later... now my car is still showing it's running some what warmer than normal but not over heating, has fogged up windows frequently (typically when colder or raining), puffs of smoke or steam will sometimes come out of vents when the heater is turned on, the heater smells funny (I say maple syrupy ...someone else said radiator fluid like), I don't have a dampness on my floor board though. I was told to check that for heater core. Is it possible any of this is related to the work I had done a 5 months ago? Maybe they didn't do something right. This has been going on for at least a month but I need to get it fixed...any ideas?
If you did all that I would about bet you need a new heater core. Does it smell sweet? Pull back the carpet on the passenger side to check for antifreeze. Sorry, I didn't see you said it smells syrupy. It is getting steamy, smelly because as the antifreeze leaks the fan blows air past the heater core, which is pretty much a small radiator that the hot water runs through for heat.
