Stereo Interconnect Cable
Playstation 3 - HDMI Video & 2 Channel Audio....?
Is it possible to use an HDMI cable directly to the television for video only.... & RCA interconnects into my pre-amplifier for stereo sound?

YES.
You can use either RCA jacks for audio or an Optical wire to do that, but you have to tell the PS3 to send the video signal via HDMI and the Audio signal via either RCA or Optical.
Here's how you do that:
-Hook up the HDMI wire from the back of your PS3 to the back of your TV.
-Take the RCA Composite wires that came with the PS3 and hook it up to the back of your PS3 as well.
-Take the White and Red wires of the RCA Composite cables and hook those up to any AUDIO-IN jack that you want to use on the back of your amplifier. (i.e. Aux-In, Tape-In, Phono-In, CD-In).
-On your PS3 main menu goto the AUDIO SETTINGS section and select Composite A/V as your audio output.
That's it! This will tell the PS3 to send the video signal via HDMI while sending the Audio signal via Composite A/V
For the optical option, just follow the same steps I just mentioned and choose Optical for your AUDIO SETTINGS.

new cables for my stereo
Is a so-called high-end power cable going to really make my stereo/home theater sound better?
I have solid interconnects and speaker cable, but I was perplexed by the notion that the power cable that comes with your power source and preamp is somehow inadequate. It seems like another thing to try to market and sell to unsuspecting enthusiasts of an expensive hobby.
I agree. In my view if a power cable can make an audible difference it would only be if absolutely everything else were perfect ... which it never is. Assuming (a BIG assumption) that all electronics are perfect, before a power cable could possibly have any audible impact the power would have to be pristeen ... requiring a multi $thousand power conditioner. And this ignores the MUCH more important impact of room resonances, etc. which, unless you have perfectly tuned the room with bass traps, absorbtion panels, etc won't be the case.
Expecting an audible improvement from a power cable is like expecting that leather seats will make a car accelerate faster when the windows are open!
I can think of dozens of ways to better benefit from the $100+ one would spend on one of these special cables. I suspect that people that buy them believe in the tooth fairy, God and horoscopes too.
