I'm looking for an inexpensive, mac-compatible, hard drive or MiniDv Camcorder. Any suggestions?
I have really been getting into movie making lately, but there's only one problem - I don't have a camcorder. I have Panther on my Mac os X, and I'm using that version of imovie, so I'd need a camcorder that's compatible with imovie 5. Also, I want either hard drive or mini dv - I know a lot of macs are compatible with mini-dvs, but hard drive camcorders aren't so compatible typically.
However, my biggest problem is money. I don't exactly have a lot of money at my disposal, since I only really get money from babysitting and taking care of people's pets. (looking for a job this summer!) however, I do have some savings. I'm looking for one in the 150 - 300 dollar range, and 300 is pushing it. (250 is more realistic.) What would people reccomend? My parents can't really help me out with the costs, but I still want to buy one. Any reccomendations? Most importantly, it has to be mac compatible - with an older mac system such as Panther.
I have a New Model from JVC..called the GR-DA-30(us)..its a nice camera..it has a good lens..the sound quality is good..but it is a difficult camera to operate..it cost $$200.00/

There is a excellent CANON Model called...the ZR800..and it costs $$260.00..its a bit easier to use..but again..Manual Adjustments are difficult..I most times film in Manual..not Auto..

I would suggest those two for price..and say..check Panasonic..//

..as far as the Media TYPE..I like my DV-tape Models..and would consider a HDD Model if the HDD was over 40-GBs..
..you definitly want to SHOOT-in-Best Quality..
..DV-tape allows for 2-speeds..and Long Play is very good quality..

I hand wind my DV-tape..the camera seem to damage the TAPE--as its winding it forward or reverse..it seems to "stretch" the tape after some time..
