What kind of fish can live in a 5 gallon tank?

I already have a healthy, happy betta here at college with me but my friend wants her own tank. However, she wants something different from a betta. I've already explained that whatever she gets will need at least five gallons and a filter, possibly a heater. But what else can live in a five gallon tank?

The only fish that can live in 5 gallon gallon tank perfectly happily is a betta. Other fish can be put in it, but they aren't going to be happy or healthy and it really isn't in their best interests. I've heard of people keeping Endlers Livebearers, but they do prefer more space. Another option is a dwarf puffer, but they are really tricky to keep and are not good for a beginner. I'd advise her to go with the betta - then she's got you to tell her what's what. :)

She can definitely consider invertebrates such as shrimp (red cherry or red crystal shrimp make a fascinating and very pretty tank), snails or an African Dwarf Frog.

Guppies, danios, platies, goldfish, swordtails, mollies, tetras - pretty much any fish other than a betta is either too large or too active for a 5 gallon. Most don't even belong in a ten gallon.

Best of luck to her in whatever she chooses. :)

How can I write a letter explaining why I went to live with my uncle?

My father had an accident and in College they told me that me that i had to bring two letters from one from me and another from my uncle explaining why i went to live with my uncle. I know that it sounds stupid but I have to do it.

You do not state if the home where you lived with your father is in another state than where you now live with your uncle and if you wish to attend a state or local government funded college or university in the state where you live with your uncle and want to be considered a resident of that state to qualify for in-state/resident tuition at the school.

I am going to assume that is the case . . .
* you used to live in another state with your father, who still lives in that state
* you now live with your uncle in a different state
* you want to be considered a resident of the location/state where you and your uncle live so the school you wish to attend will charge you the in-state/resident tuition

Just be clear and straight forward when you write your letter. State the following:
* your father had an accident and give the date
* your father could not afford to take care of you (or physically could not take care of you - or both) after his accident
* your uncle offered you a place to live and was able to help pay your living expenses
* you moved to take advantage of your uncle's generous offer
* you have lived with your uncle for [state how long - # of months]
* your uncle has lived, worked, and paid taxes in the area and state where he (and now you) resides for [state how long he has lived there]
* since your father still cannot afford for you to live with him / is not able to have you live with him [like maybe he's residing in a rehabilitation center or nursing home], you are looking at higher education in the area that has been your home (with your uncle)
* if you have held down a part-time job during high school, while living with your uncle, state that - how long you have worked, the fact that some of your earnings have had state (and maybe local) income taxes deducted
* state you currently hold a driver's license for the state where you now live with your uncle (I hope you have that and not a driver's license from the state where you lived with your father.)
Be sure to use good grammar and proper spelling, too. :-)

The college admissions office staff just want to make sure you did not move to where your uncle lives so you can benefit from the in-state/resident tuition. The taxpayers of the state or the local region have paid to support the government funded schools. The state and local governments do not want those who have not helped fund the schools to benefit as residents. It is not a stupid request for you and your uncle to supply the required letters.

If my assumption is wrong as to why you are asked for the letters, then you will need to add details to your question as to the reason why you have been asked to do that. I'm sure you asked someone in the college department that asked for the letters why they are needed, didn't you?

Best wishes
