theater Light Gels
if a green colored gel is used on a full spectrum light source, what color/s will pass through the gel?
this is a technical theater question about stage lighting and such..
Green! A full-spectrum light source is white light. White light contains all visible colours, including green.
When a white light is shone through a green gel, the gel filters out all colours of light except for green, which it allows to pass through.
If you had a primary coloured light source that was *not* green (i.e. red or blue), you would have a problem, as there would be no green light to allow through, only red. Similarly, if you put two primary gels after a white light source, their combined effect is cancel out all of (in practice, almost all of) the light.

Algebra II exponents again... word problem? Please help, easy 10 points?
" Dan placed three colored gels
over the main spotlight in the theater so that
the intensity of the light on stage was 900
watts per square centimeter (W/cm2 ). After he
added two more gels, making a total of five
over the spotlight, the intensity on stage
dropped to 600 W/cm2. What will be the
intensity of the light on stage with six gels
over the spotlight if you know that the intensity
of light decays exponentially with the thickness
of material covering it?"

The general equation is
I = A*e^(-kt)
where I = intensity of the light
A = intensity of the light without gel
k = number of gels
t = thickness of each gel
900 = A*e^(-3t)
600 = A*e^(-5t)
900/600 = e^(-3t)/e^(-5t)
1.5 = e^(2t)
2t = ln(1.5)
t = ln(1.5)/2
t = 0.2027
I = A*e^(-kt)
A = I*e^(kt)
A = 900*e^(3*0.2027)
A = 1653 W/cm^2
I = 1653*e^(-0.2027k)
when k = 6
I = 1653*e^(-0.2027*6)
I = 490 W/cm^2
