What are the best theatrical gels for creating these effects: nighttime, candlelight?

I am doing an outdoor amateur production, and we have 4 halogen lamps to work with. I need to soften the light considerably so they don't look like... well... halogen lamps. I would like to create the effect of moonlight and candlelight, but since I am unfamiliar with lighting design I don't know what colour gels I should use. If you know, please let me know what four colours I should use in each of the two schemes.

That is going to be hard with limited resources. Also not knowing the color of the stage, set, costumes, skin tone of cast etc, there is not exact correct answer.
Also for moonlight are you asking direct moonligt, or a general night scene?
I would go with a deep blue Roscoe 79 or 80 with a highlight of something pale (R61).
I bleieve you must be british (the u in color is my clue there) so Roscoe colors may be more difficult than Lee, there are websites that will help translate these color choices from on to another.
The candle light should be easier, especially with footlights. First have a candle on stage, I do not know what the fire marshall (or whatever brit equiv is) is like in your area, but if real flame is not appropriate then there are some decent fake candles that look fairly real. You can often buy these at a local novelty shop, or if you need really good quality Roscoe makes a wonderful flicker candle, very realistic. Then youwill only need to reinforce what the audience will alreday be seeing (we all at soem level know what a candle lit room looks like. I would look toward the warmer ambers, but not into the reds, R18 could be good.
As for your third lamp, I have no idea what would be best, again I would need to know a lot more detail before I cuold give a definitive answer. But something neutral that has a colour temperature that really runs the gamit (R51 suprise pink is always a favorite, L003 is close but a little pailer).
