Truss Table
I am looking for a clear acrylic solid pool cover with truss system, strong enough for people to walk?
strong enough for tables and chairs to be set on the pool cover. I have seen pictures of this at party rental places. I wish to buy the system instead of renting one.
I saw a Hollywood party on TV (on Oprah?) where the party was over a pool on just the type of system you are talking about. I didn't find the exact thing. There is a reference book called Sweets used by designers and architects published by McGraw Hill. It has volumes and volumes of categorized products. The online version is cumbersome, so I didn't attempt it, but check it at your library. Another is the Thomas Register, which is more of a source reference for business and manufacturers.
I wonder if the sytem might be available from companies who specialize in stages. The only ones I saw of this nature were intended to sit on a floor and would not span any distance (though some of the lighting ideas could be cool for your application).
Still, in my search I did find one product that might work. The web page didn't talk about maximum spans or the like. For what its worth, here it is:

Essential Characteristics And Uses For Picnic Tables
Versatility and durability are keywords when it comes to picnic tables, it must be said. Just about anybody who's ever dined in the outdoors has a pleasant memory of sitting on a wooden picnic table, enjoying hot dogs or hamburgers or both, whether at a park or in the backyard. These tables have been around for decades, mostly made of wood and weather proved, though plastic is gradually overtaking wood, by the way.
In a few countries, these tables are often called picnic benches, for what it's worth. All such tables and benches are modified so that they, in fact, have a bench on which to sit and they generally make for the best tables for out-of-doors dining. These days, many are constructed of materials other than wood and can even be made so that they're portable and yet still very durable.
It's still the case these days that many a city park or state or national park has a wide variety of such tables scattered around them for the use of their patrons. One can also see different versions of what can only be called a picnic table in school cafeterias, break rooms or community centers and dining halls. They make for a very nice, durable and long-lasting dining table, it must be said.
Usually, a regular-size picnic table can seat anywhere from 6 to 10 people quite easily. Often times, they're deliberately made to be extremely heavy and hard to move around, which is why they make for good outdoor tables in a park or the backyard. They'll stay in place, even in extreme weather conditions and will be there for quite a while, which is due, most likely, to the fact that they've been weatherproofed.
An average wooden picnic table is made from heavy duty lumber board and it's often stained so that it can withstand the elements. Additionally, the tabletop and benches tend to be attached to the cross-members and trusses with heavy-duty, hardware-quality screws or even nails. The most durable of all of them usually use carriage bolts, which are fastened through use of washers and bolts.
Today, there are a number of newer-style tables being created from other materials, most especially heavy duty plastic or metals that are very lightweight in character. There are tables made completely of stone or concrete, and they'll definitely last quite a long time. Still, plastic is gradually replacing wood as the material of choice, mainly because it can last at least as long and is just as weatherproof.
Picnic tables these days are as ubiquitous as ever, and are seen in more parks or other recreational areas than can be easily counted. As well, variations on the design are seen in break rooms, cafeterias and other areas. Plastic is also becoming the preferred material of choice in the making of these tables, though wood is still around, making the table a fairly commonplace and versatile outdoors dining tool.
