1 ohm amp, does it matter what ohm sub i run?

i have a bd 1001 rockford 1 ohm amp. box says 1000 watts but its rated at 1400 ish. i need a sub, but im not sure if i want to go 1 big power sub or 2 medium power. rockford has 12 inch dual voice coil 4 ohm 1000 rms sub. would the ohm differance change the wattage on the amp to 1/4? maybe the sub can be wired to run at 2 ohm and then it would run 1/2? there is also a sub from massive audio, tho i dont know much about the company. its a quad 1 ohm voice coil rms of 2500. im not very good with ohm's so im asking someone would knows what they are doing. the massive specs can be seen here http://cgi.ebay.com/MASSIVE-AUDIO-DMX-12-CAR-COMPETITION-SPL-SUB-SUBWOOFER_W0QQitemZ140159285925QQihZ004QQcategoryZ18803QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem
the rockford can be found here http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ia80AIG1PfF/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=520&tab=review&i=575T212D2#Tab
which would be better? or maybe there is a better choice then those 2? thanks for the advice.

How you load an amp determines the amount of power out.

There is a trade off though, the lower the impedance (ohms) the more power is pushed as well as higher distortion and more heat is generated. The excessive heat will shorten the life of the amp.

For best overall performance, it's far better to get a higher powered amp and load it with 4 ohms than a lower powered amp and force it to push more power with a lower impedance (2 or less ohms) load.

Having subs that can handle 2500 watts when all you have is 1400 watts is a waste.

If I were you and I had the space, I'd get two 700 watt RMS @ 4 ohm subs, wire them to the amp like so - http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j230/sparky3489/PARALLEL.jpg

Mutli-coiled sub are only different in wiring methods to obtain ohm matching with many subwoofers, not for just a pair. There is no audible difference in mulit-coiled subs vs. single-coiled subs.

Specs of your amp.

- 500 watts RMS x 1 at 4 ohms
- 1000 watts RMS x 1 at 2 ohms
- Class bd technology
- requires 4-gauge power and ground leads and a 100-amp fuse — wiring and hardware not included with amplifier
- selectable 50-250 Hz variable low-pass crossover, 24 dB per octave
- MOSFET power supply and output devices
- Maximum Efficiency Heat Sink Application (MEHSA) mounting technology increases the heat transfer from the MOSFET output devices to the heat sink, for higher power output, lower operating temperatures, and greater reliability
- TOPAZ — noise-killing differential inputs that eliminate 80% of ground loop noise
- preamp outputs for easy connection to a second amplifier
- wired remote control of Punch Bass (0-18 dB centered at 45 Hz) — gives you fingertip control of your bass impact
- subsonic filter removes frequencies below 20 Hz for increased efficiency
- bd Sync — allows two identical Class bd amps to be tied together to power one subwoofer (using an optional cable)
- 13-1/8"W x 2-3/8"H x 9-7/8"D
